A Haverford Township resident lost an undisclosed sum after a caller posing as a Chase Bank representative tricked him into transferring his funds.
The fraud, reported Saturday, Aug. 29, at 1:37 p.m. on the 200 block of Valley Ridge Road, was among four arrests and multiple incidents in the Haverford Township Police Department's weekly blotter covering Aug. 26 through Sept. 1. The Delco Times first reported on the week's log.
The caller claimed someone had tried to open an account using the victim's identity. He urged the resident to move all his money to a "safe" account, promising it would be returned within 72 hours. The victim transferred the funds before recognizing the scheme.
Bank-impersonation scams have appeared repeatedly in Haverford Township blotters this year. A similar Chase fraud call was reported June 4 on the unit block of Dartmouth Lane, though that resident recognized the ruse and did not hand over information.
