Tom Pelphrey won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, Sept. 14 for his role in HBO's "Task," created by Berwyn native Brad Ingelsby and filmed across the Main Line and Delaware County.
It was the only win for "Task," which had earned six nominations. Netflix's "Tires," Shane Gillis's comedy shot in West Chester, did not convert its lone nomination. The ceremony aired on NBC from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, and streamed live on Peacock.
Pelphrey's win for his portrayal of Robbie Prendergast marked his first Primetime Emmy, according to Indulge Express. He had previously received a guest actor nomination for "Ozark." In his acceptance speech, Pelphrey addressed fiancée Kaley Cuoco: "I love you more than anything, and our family is the crown jewel of my life."
Ingelsby, who attended Archbishop John Carroll High School in Radnor and graduated from Villanova University, was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series but did not win. Mark Ruffalo, who plays FBI agent Tom Brandis, lost the Outstanding Lead Actor category. Nominations for directing, cinematography and picture editing also went to other shows.
Before the ceremony, Ruffalo had told E! News on Thursday, Sept. 10 that Pelphrey's nomination was "so richly deserved." He called Pelphrey's performance "so much of the heart of the show."
"Tires," co-created by West Chester University alum Gillis, films at a real auto shop at 640 East Gay St. in West Chester. Its nomination for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series went instead to "Widow's Bay," according to Showbiz411.
"Task" is set in the working-class suburbs outside Philadelphia. Season 1 takes place in Havertown, and the production filmed at the Llanerch Diner in Upper Darby, Ridley Creek State Park, Wissahickon Valley Park and other spots across the area. The Llanerch Diner also appeared in the 2012 film "Silver Linings Playbook," according to Delco Today.
Season 2 has been filming this summer in Drexel Hill, Upper Darby, Manayunk and other locations. A crew returned to the Llanerch Diner on Aug. 31 for additional scenes. Mahershala Ali joins the cast as a Philadelphia DEA agent. No premiere date for Season 2 has been announced.
Ingelsby previously created "Mare of Easttown" for HBO, which also won Emmy Awards. "Tires" has been renewed for a fourth season.
