Blue Elephant, the Italian-Thai-Japanese fusion restaurant with locations in Wayne and Pottstown, will open a third spot at 64-66 E. Lancaster Ave. in Ardmore this November.

The new restaurant will occupy a portion of the existing Mikado Thai Pepper space, according to Patch. Mikado Thai Pepper will keep operating from its side of the building with its full menu intact.

The address carries family history. Sutida Somboonsong opened Thai Pepper at that Ardmore storefront in 1991 while her husband, Win, was serving as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. In 1999 the couple opened Mikado next door and later knocked down the walls to combine both restaurants.

Their daughter, Pearl Somboonsong Murphy, developed the Blue Elephant concept. A graduate of Cornell University's Hospitality Program, she worked with restaurant groups in Chicago and New York before joining the family business in 2017. She now serves as co-CEO of WIN Hospitality alongside her brother, Paul Somboonsong, who joined as co-CEO in 2024 after roughly a decade at BCG, Accenture and J.P. Morgan.

Blue Elephant first opened in Pottstown in 2018 at 152 E. High St. A second location followed in Wayne at 110 N. Wayne Ave. in 2023. The Ardmore spot will be the brand's third.

The renovation carries an estimated price tag of more than $100,000, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Blue Elephant Ardmore will be a BYOB. Its menu will draw from the Wayne and Pottstown locations, with dishes that blend Italian, Thai and Japanese influences. Items at existing locations include miso butter gnocchi, sushi rolls and Thai-seasoned pastas.

"He calls me 'the dreamer,' who conjures up a great deal of risky, design-driven projects," Sutida Somboonsong said on WIN Hospitality's website, describing her partnership with Win. "Our different interests makes for a surprisingly good team. … The job description of a restaurateur always lengthens and a good restaurateur will always be adjusting."

WIN Hospitality now operates eight restaurants across the Main Line and beyond, including Teikoku in Newtown Square, Azie in Media, Maison Lotus and Jade Rabbit in Wayne, and Mama San in Radnor.
