ChristianaCare has taken over a former Crozer outpatient facility in Havertown at 2010 West Chester Pike. Radnor Fire Company also received EMS training funds through a $218,000 state grant.
Both were discussed at the Wednesday, Oct. 7, Delaware County Council meeting, where officials provided updates on healthcare and workforce programs reshaping the county after the Crozer hospital system's collapse.
Havertown gets new healthcare operator
Delaware-based ChristianaCare, a health system with 15,000 employees and more than 200 sites, acquired four former Crozer outpatient locations through the Prospect Medical Holdings bankruptcy auction. The Havertown site was among them, along with facilities in Glen Mills, Media and Broomall.
Patch reported that ChristianaCare purchased the outpatient sites for $50.3 million. According to the county's Prospect Medical update page, ChristianaCare won the auction in May 2025. The health system transitioned all four facilities by Aug. 1, remaining closed for less than a week before resuming patient care, according to the county's weekly digest.
Pauline Corso, ChristianaCare's president of ambulatory network continuity and growth, told the council the system is focused on filling critical primary care, geriatric and ambulatory needs across Delaware County.
"I want to thank ChristianaCare for the work they are doing here in Delaware County," Delaware County Council member Dr. Monica Taylor said. "They have truly been great partners in helping expand access to care here in our county."
The Crozer closures hit the county hard. Prospect Medical Holdings closed hospitals in Springfield and Drexel Hill in 2022, then went bankrupt in 2025 and shuttered Taylor Hospital and Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Patch reported. The closures left Delaware County with only two hospitals, neither in the southern part of the county.
ChristianaCare has responded by building small-scale "neighborhood hospitals." Its Aston location, a 20,000-square-foot facility open around the clock with 10 inpatient beds and 10 emergency department beds, logged 4,465 emergency visits in its first three months. The facility is staffed almost entirely by former Crozer employees.
A second neighborhood hospital is scheduled to open in Springfield in fall 2027, according to a Delaware County announcement about a beam-signing ceremony at the construction site.
Radnor Fire Company lands EMS training funds
Separately, Kate McGeever, executive director of the Delaware County Workforce Development Board, told the council that a $218,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry is funding a regional industry partnership for Emergency Medical Services employers in the Philadelphia collar counties.
Training grants from that program have gone to Aston Fire Company, VMSC EMS, Chester City Fire Company, Rocky Run Fire Company and Radnor Fire Company. McGeever did not specify the dollar amount awarded to each company.
The EMS partnership is one of several grant-funded workforce projects the board is running. A $400,000 grant supports veterans reentering the workforce, and a $150,000 grant connects Delaware County schools with local employers.
