Delaware County residents served by the Radnor Memorial Library and Haverford Township Free Library will be able to borrow free litter-cleanup kits from most county library branches starting Wednesday, July 29, checking them out the same way they would a book.

The "Team Up to Clean Up" program, announced Monday by the Delaware County Office of Sustainability and Delaware County Libraries, stocks most library locations with two kits apiece. Each kit holds two foldable trash grabbers, two trash bags, two branded high-visibility safety vests, a pack of disinfecting wipes and an instructional sheet. The county did not disclose a loan period for the kits.

Residents can check out both kits at one location to outfit a four-person cleanup, or request kits from another branch for transfer. The program is open to anyone with a Delaware County Libraries card.

"We're happy to be able to work with our partners in the Delaware County Office of Sustainability to offer these kits in libraries," said Anny Laepple, director of Delaware County Libraries, in the county's July 21 announcement. "The kits offer our users the opportunity to help keep their communities clean and beautiful using materials provided for them through this partnership."

Olivia Sansone, sustainability coordinator with the Delaware County Office of Sustainability, said the program targets students seeking volunteer hours and families looking for a hands-on way to help their neighborhoods. She said litter "can feel overwhelming" and that the kits are meant to lower the barrier to action by putting tools directly in residents' hands.

The Radnor Memorial Library at 114 W. Wayne Ave. in Wayne and the Haverford Township Free Library at 1601 Darby Road in Havertown are both part of the 26-library, 28-location Delaware County system. The county's announcement says kits will be available at "most" locations but does not name individual branches.
