The Devon-based Devereux Bike Shop is selling refurbished bicycles on the Haverford College campus Thursday, Sept. 17, with mountain, hybrid and town-style bikes starting at $80.

The annual sale runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Dining Center Green, according to a Haverford College event listing. Locks are available for $20. Cash and credit cards are accepted.

The bikes are donated by local colleges, police departments and community members, then inspected and repaired before being sold, according to Radnor Patch. All revenue from the sales is reinvested into Devereux's vocational training program.

The sale grows out of a partnership between the Bike Shop and Haverford College that dates to 2011. The college had garages full of abandoned student bikes and no plan for them. Claudia Kent, Haverford's arboretum director and assistant director of facilities management, has said the arrangement solved two problems: students got affordable bikes, and the college cleared its stockpile of unusable bicycles. Haverford hosted the same sale in September 2025, according to the college's event archives.

The Bike Shop is one of several small businesses run through The Shops at Devereux, a licensed vocational training center founded in 1962. The program also includes an auto shop, a floral shop, a greenhouse and an apparel shop. Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities work across the businesses, earning paychecks while learning marketable skills in a realistic work setting.

Kirk Smith, the program administrator, has said the Bike Shop team takes pride in giving bicycles a new life and that the revenue funds the broader training program.

Shoppers who miss Thursday's campus sale can visit the Devereux Bike Shop year-round at 119 Old Lancaster Road in Devon. The shop is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for bike sales, repairs and tune-ups.
