Firefighters pulled a dog and a rabbit to safety after carbon monoxide filled a home on Grays Lane in the Haverford neighborhood on the afternoon of Monday, July 13.

Crews from the Merion Fire Company of Ardmore responded to the residence in Lower Merion Township and rescued the two pets while working to clear the hazard, according to a Patch report published Tuesday, July 22. Both animals survived and are doing fine, according to the fire company.

The cause of the carbon monoxide buildup has not been publicly disclosed. It is unclear whether any human occupants were home or required medical attention.

Pennsylvania law requires CO alarms in any home with fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces or an attached garage. If a CO alarm sounds and anyone feels ill, evacuate immediately and call 911.
