A Philadelphia man already accused of burglarizing three Main Line homes now faces charges in a fourth break-in, this one on Andover Road in Haverford Township.
Jabir Hanif Parker, 24, of the 2700 block of West Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia, was charged in connection with an Aug. 20 burglary in which two masked suspects allegedly entered the home around 3:15 a.m. while the homeowner slept. Investigators say between $75,000 and $80,000 in jewelry was stolen, along with eight to 16 custom handbags valued at about $10,000 and $1,000 in cash, according to 6abc.
Surveillance video showed two suspects entering the property, leaving with bags and getting into a waiting SUV.
The Haverford Township charge was added to an existing criminal complaint after a Sept. 1 search warrant at Parker's Philadelphia residence turned up property tied to the Haverford victim's home, Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Tanner Beck said at a Thursday, Sept. 10 court appearance.
"A search warrant for the defendant's residence, we found property that is tied back to the victim's home from the Haverford job," Beck said.
Parker had already been charged in connection with a June 22 burglary in Bryn Mawr, where investigators say 12 pieces of jewelry worth $106,700 were stolen. He is also accused of a July 5 burglary in Wynnewood, where 28 items valued at $687,292 were allegedly taken, Mainline Media News reported.
The third incident was an attempted break-in on July 18 at the Malvern home of Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. Barkley and his family were home and awakened by the intruder, who fled. Nothing was stolen.
Investigators used geo-fencing to identify all cellphones active at the date, time and location of each burglary. Only one phone appeared at all three scenes initially charged. It belonged to Parker, according to PhillyVoice. His voice was also captured by a nanny cam during the Wynnewood burglary, according to Mainline Media News.
Court documents show Parker searched Google for "how much is 1.5 carat diamond" and "rolex day-date gold presidential price" less than an hour after the Bryn Mawr burglary, Patch reported. He later searched "do all gloves stop fingerprints."
Parker was arrested Sept. 1 by Lower Merion police with assistance from FBI SWAT, Pennsylvania State Police, Philadelphia Police and the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office. Items recovered from his vehicle included walkie-talkies, a backpack, gloves and a crowbar.
He faces multiple felony charges including burglary, conspiracy, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal use of a communication facility. He remains jailed on $1 million cash bond after Judge Steven T. O'Neill denied a defense request to reduce the bail.
Parker left Montgomery County District Court in Narberth on Thursday smiling at cameras as Lower Merion police escorted him to their vehicle, Fox 29 reported. Haverford Township resident Sarah Attardo told Fox 29 the news was unsettling, saying police patrol the area frequently and the break-in was terrifying to hear about.
Beck said investigators believe two to three additional suspects were involved and remain under investigation. Parker is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing in October.
Anyone with information about the suspects or sales of stolen items can call Lower Merion Police at 610-649-1000 and ask for detectives.
