Haverford College students will share practical advice on tackling college-level reading at a free panel discussion on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. in Stokes Hall 118.
The event is free.
Called "Reading in the First Year," the panel will feature current sophomores, juniors and seniors describing how they navigated the jump from high school reading loads to the demands of different academic disciplines at Haverford. The panel is open to the campus community and prospective students.
Academic coach Lauren Ward organized the event through the college's Office of Academic Resources. Ward, a Bryn Mawr College graduate who holds an M.Ed., returned to the Bryn Mawr-Haverford consortium to lead academic coaching at the OAR. She has received Haverford's inaugural Students' Association Staff Award.
The OAR describes its coaching program as a partnership that helps students understand the unspoken expectations and academic rigor at Haverford, according to the office's website. Ward's role focuses on connecting self-awareness with a clear grasp of how the college operates so students can adapt and direct their own success.
The Sept. 24 panel is one of several fall programs Haverford has announced. The college also has a Campus Read event scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20, featuring AI journalist Karen Hao, and a Fords Forum on college finances set for Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Stokes Hall 118 is located on Haverford College's campus at 370 Lancaster Ave. in Haverford. The event announcement does not mention a registration requirement.
