A 12-mile cycling tribute will roll through Haverford Township on Friday, Sept. 11. Riders depart Manoa Fire Company at 8:46 a.m., the exact minute the first tower was struck in 2001.
The route passes EMS, fire and police stations across the township before ending at Rose Tree Park in Media, where Delaware County holds its annual Day of Remembrance Ceremony, Main Line Today reported. The stops serve as a tribute to the first responders who protect the community.
Cyclists will leave from Manoa Fire Company, also known as Station 56, at 115 S. Eagle Rd. in Havertown. The 8:46 a.m. start time marks the moment the first tower was struck on Sept. 11, 2001. Friday marks 25 years since the attacks.
Rose Tree Park, at 1671 N. Providence Rd. in Media, houses permanent law enforcement, fire, EMS and 9/11 memorials. The county's ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the Law Enforcement Memorial.
Speakers include Delaware County Council Chair Richard Womack, District Attorney Tanner Rouse, State Rep. Jennifer O'Mara and State Sens. Anthony Hardy Williams and Tim Kearney, according to a county announcement. The Delaware County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard will present the colors, followed by a wreath-laying at the memorial.
The ceremony honors the nearly 3,000 people killed on Sept. 11, 2001, and pays tribute to Delaware County first responders who have died in the line of duty. It is expected to last about one hour, according to the Delaware County Times.
County officials will be available to speak with media after the ceremony. All residents are welcome to attend.
The cycling tribute departs Station 56 at 8:46 a.m. The county ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at Rose Tree Park.
