Three Haverford Township homeowners will ask the Zoning Hearing Board for permission to build projects that don't meet current zoning rules.
The cases cover a front porch reconstruction on Fairlamb Avenue, an accessory storage building on East Haverford Road in Bryn Mawr and a front yard fence on Bon Air Terrace, according to a public notice from the township. The hearing begins at 7:45 p.m. Sept. 17 in the Commissioners Meeting Room at 1014 Darby Road, Havertown. Residents can attend and speak.
Porch rebuild needs setback relief
Kyle Lemere, owner of 22 Fairlamb Ave. in Ward 1, wants to reconstruct a front porch and deck. The project would sit 26 feet from the street, 4 feet short of the required 30-foot setback in the R-5 zoning district. Lemere also needs approval to alter a building the township already classifies as nonconforming.
Oversized storage building in Bryn Mawr
Jeffrey Welsh, owner of 812 E. Haverford Road in Bryn Mawr, is asking for multiple variances to build an accessory storage building on his R-4-zoned property in Ward 5. The proposed building would be larger than the existing home, which would effectively change the property's primary use to storage. That use is not allowed there.
Welsh also seeks variances for a garage door taller than 7 feet 6 inches and wider than 16 feet, and for a private garage exceeding the 25-by-25-foot size limit. Under township code, a private garage cannot cover more than 50% of the principal building's footprint.
Front yard fence on Bon Air Terrace
Susan Shandler, owner of 1300 Bon Air Terrace in Ward 9, wants to install a fence in her front yard. Township zoning code does not permit front yard fences in the R-4 district.
Who sits on the board
Kevin Wilson was appointed to the ZHB on July 13 by a 6-3 commissioner vote, according to Board of Commissioners meeting minutes. As of the board's June 18 meeting, Chairman Robert Kane led the panel, per ZHB minutes. The full roster for the Sept. 17 hearing has not been confirmed.
The hearing is scheduled to conclude by 11 p.m., with any unfinished cases continued to a future date.
