Boardwalk Vegan, the 12-seat plant-based restaurant at 28 N. Manoa Road in Havertown, landed on a Delaware County roundup of the best restaurants for groups that mix vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters at the same table.

The list, published Monday, named eight county restaurants where dietary differences don't have to derail dinner plans. Boardwalk Vegan was the only fully vegan spot to make the cut.

The recognition comes as owners Kris and Randy Sumey continue to navigate Randy's recovery from cancer surgery. Randy, 56, a U.S. Navy veteran, underwent surgery for ampullary cancer at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania on April 2. As of May, Kris had been running the restaurant largely on her own and seeking community support to hire a chef-manager while Randy recovers.

"We're a mom-and-pop shop and we're down pop," Kris Sumey told Fox29 Philadelphia in May 2026 while describing the community's response during Randy's hospitalization.

The couple opened Boardwalk Vegan in October 2020 after the pandemic wiped out their event-planning company. They spotted a shuttered pizzeria on Manoa Road, just off West Chester Pike, and turned it into a Jersey Shore-themed eatery serving pizza, wings, burgers, fries and desserts, all fully plant-based.

The signature dish is the Twister Cheesesteak, built from plant-based steak, onions and vegan cheese sauce. It won Best Vegan Cheesesteak at the Philly Vegan Awards in both 2023 and 2024. Boardwalk Vegan also took home Best Vegan Pizza and Best Fries in 2023.

For Haverford Township residents looking to try Boardwalk Vegan, the restaurant is open Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from noon to 8 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. It sits across from Sacred Heart School and Church, with a few outdoor tables available in good weather.
