Firefighters knocked down a basement dryer fire at a commercial building in Wayne on Tuesday, Sept. 1, clearing the scene in under an hour.

Radnor Fire Company, Berwyn Fire Company and Bryn Mawr Fire Company were dispatched at 2:40 p.m. to the 800 block of Radnor Street Road in the Tredyffrin section of Wayne, according to a Radnor Fire Company post. The fire was reported as a dryer in the building's basement.

Radnor crews found the laundry room filled with black smoke. They stretched a 1¾-inch hose line into the room and put the fire out.

Bryn Mawr Fire Company, also known as Station 23, was recalled after the initial dispatch. Radnor and Berwyn crews stayed on scene, deploying fans and using positive pressure ventilation (PPV) to push smoke out of the building.

Both companies cleared the scene within an hour of the original call.

The fire company's post did not report any injuries. The cause was described only as a dryer fire based on the initial dispatch report; no fire marshal determination has been released.

Residents who witness a fire or smell smoke can call 911.
