Radnor Fire Company volunteers crawled through a blacked-out obstacle course in full gear during a weekly drill.
Members wore full turnout gear and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with hoods over their faces to simulate the zero visibility firefighters encounter inside smoke-filled buildings, the company said in a post on its website Wednesday, Aug. 26.
The course forced crews to navigate a maze, climb over obstacles and squeeze under low clearances. One section included a simulated wall members had to locate and pass through to finish the run.
The challenges escalated mid-crawl. Crews encountered simulated ceiling collapses, unconscious victims and debris that snagged their air cylinders.
SCBA drills are part of the company's weekly training schedule. A separate July 2026 post on the RFC site described crews returning to the firehouse for their regular session after responding to storm calls.
Radnor Fire Company, headquartered at 121 S. Wayne Ave. in Wayne, protects the largest fire district in Radnor Township. Residents interested in volunteering can find details on the company's website.
