Freshman Evan Rohde tied for third place in his first collegiate tournament, leading Villanova men's golf to a seventh-place finish at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial in Hamilton, N.Y.
The Wildcats shot 874 (+10) over three rounds Saturday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6, according to Villanova athletics. Seton Hall won the team title at 11 under par, and Bucknell's Charlie Barrickman claimed the individual crown at 7 under.
Rohde, a native Texan, opened with a 74 (+2) before settling in. He shot 69 (-3) in each of the final two rounds. That put him at 212 (-4) for the tournament.
The team's first day told two different stories. Villanova stumbled to an 11-over opening round, then posted a 5-under second round, the second-best team score of the entire event. Junior Vibhav Alokam, a Michigan native, drove that turnaround with a 67 (-5), the lowest individual round of the tournament. His scorecard included an eagle and six birdies, matching his career-low 18-hole score.
The eagle gave Alokam seven for his career, tying former Wildcat Ryan Pamer for third on the program's all-time list. Alokam finished tied for 25th at 218 (+2) overall.
Villanova shot 4 over in the final round on day two, climbing one spot from eighth to seventh in the team standings.
Sophomore Luke Leonard tied for 35th at 220 (+4), a new personal-best 54-hole score. His closing round of even-par 72 was also his career-low 18-hole total. Junior Ian Love and senior Nathan Marion each tied for 61st at 227 (+11), a career low for Love.
Junior Cameron Besaw competed as an individual and was 1 under par through two rounds before a third-round 77 pushed him to 220 (+4), still a career low. He tied for 35th.
Villanova returns to competition Sept. 19 at The Goat, hosted by Navy.
