Brad Ingelsby, the Archbishop John Carroll High School and Villanova University alumnus behind HBO's Emmy-nominated "Task," is bringing Season 2 cameras back to the Llanerch Diner in Upper Darby next week. The show, set in Havertown, has put familiar Delco landmarks on screens nationwide.
Upper Darby Township issued a traffic and parking alert on Aug. 20 notifying residents that crews will set up in and around the diner at 95 E. Township Lane beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, with production running into Tuesday, Sept. 1.
The shoot marks a return trip for the show. Season 1 used the Llanerch Diner along with locations in Aston, Coatesville, Broomall, Wissahickon Valley Park and Chester County. Season 2 filming began in July in Philadelphia's Manayunk neighborhood and other parts of Delaware County before heading back to the diner, according to Patch.
Ingelsby's roots run deep here. He grew up in Berwyn, attended Archbishop John Carroll in Radnor and graduated from Villanova, where he was a marketing major. A screenwriting elective during his junior year set him on his career path. After a stint teaching computers at St. Patrick School in Malvern, he left for the American Film Institute in Los Angeles in 2003. He later worked in insurance with his father and taught as an adjunct at Neumann University before breaking through with the 2013 film "Out of the Furnace."
His previous HBO series, "Mare of Easttown," earned 16 Emmy nominations in 2021. Now "Task" has collected six nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, airing Monday, Sept. 14, on NBC, including Mark Ruffalo for outstanding lead actor, Tom Pelphrey for outstanding supporting actor, Ingelsby for outstanding writing and Salli Richardson Whitfield for outstanding directing.
In an email to The Philadelphia Inquirer in July, Ingelsby said the team was already deep into Season 2 production when the nominations landed. "We are busy at work shooting Season 2 right now, and this is a very nice reason to pause for a moment and celebrate," he wrote.
The show stars Ruffalo as FBI agent Tom Brandis, who leads a task force investigating violent robberies in the working-class Philadelphia suburbs. Season 2 adds Mahershala Ali to the cast.
Speaking to Emmy Magazine in August 2025, Ingelsby explained why he keeps setting stories in the neighborhoods where he grew up: "I feel like I know these people. I know what their houses look like. I know what's in their refrigerators. I know what's in their cabinets. I know the streets."
A premiere date for Season 2 has not been announced.
