Villanova men's tennis will play four road events this fall under Eduardo Ugalde, the program's new head coach, the university announced Monday, Sept. 21.

The Wildcats open at the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa., on Saturday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27. They travel to the Saint Joseph's Invitational at the SJU Tennis Complex in Merion Station in early October, then compete in the ITA Regional Championships from Thursday, Oct. 15, through Tuesday, Oct. 20. Villanova closes the fall at Drexel's Dragon Invitational, Nov. 6-8.

Every stop is a road trip.

The fall slate is Ugalde's first as head coach. Villanova hired him in July after Brad Adams concluded 19 seasons leading the program. The Wildcats went 5-16 in the spring.

Ugalde arrived from Yale, where he spent five seasons as an assistant and was elevated to interim head coach in May 2025. He guided the Bulldogs to 16 wins and an at-large berth in the 2026 NCAA Tournament, their first tournament appearance since 1977. Yale finished No. 45 in the final ITA national rankings that season.

Before Yale, Ugalde was a volunteer assistant at Duke during the 2020-21 season and an assistant at Alabama in 2018-19. He also held a head coaching role at the University of Texas Permian Basin. A native of Queretaro, Mexico, Ugalde played at North Carolina Wesleyan College.

"I am incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Villanova men's tennis program," Ugalde said in July when the university announced his hiring. He added that Villanova's focus on academics and athletics aligned with his values.

Villanova Vice President and Director of Athletics Eric Roedl said at the time that Ugalde's experience at top programs and his track record of developing student-athletes made him the right fit.

The program also received a boost in March when AJ '02 and Melissa Rohde donated $1 million to create the Villanova Tennis Endowed Fund, described by the university as the largest gift in program history.

The Wildcats' first action comes Saturday, Sept. 26, at Lehigh.
