Villanova women's soccer stayed unbeaten with a 2-1 win over Delaware on Thursday, Sept. 17, after sophomore midfielder Kaydee Amorosa and redshirt sophomore Amalia Cardo scored late goals.
The Wildcats improved to 5-0-2 at Higgins Soccer Complex, matching their most nonconference wins under head coach Samar Azem with one game left before conference play. Villanova went 5-3 in nonconference a year ago.
A scoreless first half saw Delaware narrowly lead shots 4-3. The Wildcats thought they had broken through in the 57th minute when Morgan Kotch put the ball in the net, but a video review disallowed the goal.
Amorosa finally broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute. Sophia Miller played a short pass to Dez Zapata, who found Amorosa. The sophomore fired from more than 20 yards out, sending the ball over Delaware goalkeeper Sophia Hall's outstretched hands and into the upper corner for her third goal of the season. Zapata's assist was her team-leading fourth of the year.
The lead lasted two minutes.
Maggie Groh sent a long pass toward Taisiya Reed near the top of the box. Reed nudged it sideways for Adiat Olaogun-Dickson, who fired past a diving Hannah Dickinson to tie it 1-1. The goal snapped Villanova's shutout streak at 613 minutes and 10 seconds of 2026 play. The Wildcats had not allowed a goal since Providence scored in the 83rd minute on Oct. 25, 2025, a stretch of 711 minutes and 2 seconds of game time.
Cardo answered six minutes later. Meghan White collected a loose ball after Delaware's defense cleared it away from Ryley Dixon and sent a service into the box. Cardo flicked the ball from near the penalty spot into the back right side of the net for the 80th-minute winner, her third goal of the season and the first game-winning goal of her career.
"I loved watching our team play today," Azem said after the match. "Coming off of last week, honestly the last couple weeks, we knew we had to sharpen some things up and our players did a phenomenal job …"
Villanova led shots 9-8 overall and 4-2 in shots on goal. Dickinson, a graduate student goalkeeper from Seattle, made one save and moved to 5-0-2 on the season. She ranks fourth in program history in career shutouts.
The Wildcats close their nonconference schedule Sunday, Sept. 20, when they host Princeton for Senior Day at Higgins Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
