A landscaping truck tipped onto its side while delivering dirt on Julip Run in Radnor Township on Monday, Aug. 17, trapping the driver inside the cab. He kicked out the windshield and got out on his own before firefighters arrived.

Radnor Fire Company's Squad and Tac 15 units were dispatched at 9:49 a.m. after a fuel spill was reported, according to an incident report posted by the fire company. Dispatch notes indicated a truck had overturned.

The truck had been making a dirt delivery to a residence on the street when it went over. The fire company's report does not state what caused the truck to tip.

EMS responded to evaluate the driver on scene. The report does not confirm whether he sustained injuries.

Hydraulic fluid had begun leaking from the overturned truck onto the driveway. Crews spread oil dry, an absorbent material, to contain the spill and prevent it from reaching the street.

Firefighters then grabbed shovels and off-loaded the remaining dirt from the truck bed to reduce its weight before a tow company could attempt to right the vehicle. The operation kept RFC crews on Julip Run for roughly two hours.

The tow truck arrived, set the landscaping truck upright and the scene was cleared. RFC units returned to the firehouse around 11:49 a.m., the fire company reported.

The Radnor Fire Company is a volunteer company serving Radnor Township in Delaware County. The overturned-truck call came five days after RFC responded to a vehicle fire on the Blue Route on Aug. 12.
