A pickup truck was fully engulfed in flames at the top of the southbound I-476 off-ramp to Lancaster Avenue on Monday, drawing a 45-minute emergency response from two fire companies shortly before 7 a.m.

Radnor Fire Company and Bryn Mawr Fire Company were dispatched to the Blue Route for a vehicle fire initially reported at mile marker 14 southbound, according to an incident report posted by Radnor Fire Company. Crews arrived to find the truck fully involved in fire at the off-ramp.

Firefighters knocked down the blaze using a 1¾-inch hose line and a dry powder extinguisher. Crews remained on scene for 45 minutes before returning to the station.

Radnor Fire Company's report did not mention any injuries, occupants or a cause of the fire. No Pennsylvania State Police or PennDOT incident report has been located to supplement those details. It is also unclear whether the off-ramp was closed to traffic during the response.

Second fire call the same day

The truck fire was the first of at least two fire calls Radnor Fire Company handled on July 13. Shortly after 6:30 p.m., the company was dispatched to the intersection of King of Prussia and Pine Tree roads for a downed tree that had pulled electrical wires into the roadway, according to a separate RFC incident report.

Crews found a large tree blocking the road and wires burning on the side of the street. PECO was notified and responded to secure power to the downed lines. Once the utility cut power, RFC's tactical crew extinguished the remaining fire. That scene kept crews occupied for approximately one hour.

The two incidents kept Radnor Fire Company volunteers on emergency calls for a combined hour and 45 minutes on a single day. RFC's 2024 call volume statistics show the company responded to 82 fire calls in July of that year, an average of roughly two to three per day.
