Pennsylvania State Police have identified the motorcyclist killed on I-476 North in Radnor Township as Christopher Caserta, 53, of Spring City in Chester County.
Caserta died at the scene of the single-vehicle crash on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 20, near mile marker 10.7 on the Blue Route, according to a State Police crash report. The Delaware County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was blunt impact trauma, the Daily Times reported.
The crash happened around 6:35 p.m. A witness told troopers that Caserta was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before the crash, according to the State Police report. While changing from the center lane to the left lane, Caserta lost control of his 2026 Harley-Davidson Breakout motorcycle.
The motorcycle fell to its left side with Caserta still on it. It slid about 150 feet, left the roadway and struck a guardrail post before coming to rest in the left lane.
Emergency crews from Radnor Township Fire Department and Broomall Fire Department responded to the scene. Responders attempted lifesaving measures, but Caserta was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not transported to a hospital.
The northbound lanes of I-476 were shut down for several hours after the crash.
Trooper Joseph Saporito of the Pennsylvania State Police Media barracks is the lead investigator. The crash report listed the primary violation under the state's safe-speed statute. The agency noted the findings are preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues.
Caserta was born in Bryn Mawr and worked as a construction laborer, according to his obituary. He was a father of four children.
His family said services will be private, with a celebration of life planned at a private residence. The family asked that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in Caserta's memory.
